Welcome to the Red King Bookmakers’s Blog and Reviews!
About Red King Bookmakers:
What’s Red King Bookmakers? It’s the tiniest publishing house in the entire world (there’s not even a printer attached to this computer yet, I’m just writing books on the wall and waiting for the paint to peel). Hopefully in the next few months I’ll have all the equipment, understand how it works, and start producing some small-batch single-malt literature.
But for now, enjoy the book reviews I’ll be posting here. And, if you’re so inclined, enjoy the books themselves, too.
About the Blog
This blog will be mostly a collection of book reviews and fun lit facts (read: dumb lit factoids). Expect to see a new book review every Sunday, and a new bit of trivia on Wednesdays. I’ll also be posting on readings/signings in NYC, and news about the emergence of the bookmaking business. And yes, I know that “bookmaking” means something else. I just thought it was a fun name.
About the Guy behind Red King Bookmakers:
I’m a lawyer living in NYC, so if this blog seems like it’s too cerebral/condescending-douchebaggy, well…there you go. I used to be an okay person though, really!
I went to the University of Alabama and majored in English and Philosophy, and got a good chunk of my credits out of the way taking creative writing classes. I was in Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society (yes, we know what those letters stand for), and was managing editor of the Marr’s Field Journal (the undergrad lit and art magazine). I also regularly wrote book reviews for the Commentator at NYU School of Law, and am a semi-enthusiastic Wikipedian.
I have a pretty extensive book collection, with a ton of signed copies. I get most of them from a subscription with Easton Press, or else by going to local readings. I got Christopher Buckley (Thank You For Smoking) to sign a book “To E-Bay” and have another signed by Ted Kennedy’s dog, Splash. I also just keep an eye out for the signed copy stickers at Barnes and Noble. I highly suggest picking those up. Your kids will appreciate it someday. At least, I know mine will.
…If I ever stop disputing the paternity test results.
